The Greater Raleigh Merchants' Association Christmas Parade
Record-setting cold didn't keep tens of thousands of people from the streets of downtown Raleigh Saturday morning for the largest Christmas parade between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta.
About 50,000 people lined the 1.2 mile route when the parade kicked off around 9:30 a.m. By then, temperatures had gotten up into the 30s after an overnight low of 21 degrees.
Now in its 63rd year, four helium balloons and 123 units were featured in the parade. The grand marshal was Major League Baseball star, Josh Hamilton, a product of Athens Drive High School in Raleigh.
A highlight of the event featured the Chris Leith Automotive Monster Truck all done up with G-105's Bob & The Showgram.

The 1.2-mile parade route started at Hillsborough and St. Mary?s Street. The parade traveled east on Hillsborough Street, turned south at the Capitol on Salisbury Street, east on Morgan and then made a final turn onto Fayetteville Street.
For the 34th year, WRAL aired the parade. Eight camera positions were used in WRAL?s broadcast that got some really great shots of the Chris Leith Monster Truck Wrap.
